IYCF Counsellor
We are currently responding to the high influx of refugees and migrants through Infant and Young Children Feeding programmes,. We are active in Opatovac transit camps through a partnership with UNICEF. We are looking for several breastfeeding counsellors with:
- Basic knowledge of optimal infant and young child feeding practices and a willingness to learn
- English
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills .
- Flexible, positive approach to working in a stressful environment willingness to work unsociable hours on a rota basis
As a counsellor, you will be responsible for:
Identification:
- Identify and assess mothers/caregivers and their infants to identify specific feeding support needs
Counselling:
- Provide one on one infant and young child feeding counselling for mothers of breastfed and non-breastfed infants
- Raise awareness on best feeding practices for infants and young children amongst family members
Maintenance of activities in the mother-baby areas:
- Ensure a safe space for counselling, breastfeeding and feeding of young children
- Meet the basic needs of mothers and infants through targeted provision of appropriate items
Reporting:
- Keep a register of mothers and children receiving support;
- Record any donations, or untargeted distributions, of infant formula, bottles and teats
