Infant and Young Child Feeding Supervisor

DPP, together with Save the Children, are looking for and Infant and Young Child Feeding Supervisor to join our team as we continue to respond to the high influx of refugees and migrants through our Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) programmes. We are active in Opatovac transit camp and will soon be moving our activities to the new location at Slavonski Brod.

We are looking for and IYCF supervisor to work in Slavonski Brod, who have the following skills:

  • Knowledge of optimal infant and young child feeding practices and a willingness to learn
  • Leadership skills with proven capacity to supervise, coach or manage staff
  • Good English language skills – oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong reporting and documenting skills
  • Flexible and positive approach to working in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources, including willingness to work unsociable hours on a rota basis
  • Able to work with limited supervision, improvise and take initiative in face of unexpected challenges

As the IYCF Supervisor, you will be responsible for:
Identification, assessment and referral :

  • Monitoring and assessing mothers/caregivers and their infants to identify the need for feeding support and to refer children for child protection, nutritional or medical care where needed.

Awareness-raising and counselling:

  • Provide one on one infant and young child feeding counselling for mothers / caregivers and raise awareness of breast feeding practices to them and their family members / travel groups

Set-up, maintenance and facilitation of activities in the mother-baby areas:

  • Ensure the basic needs of mothers and infants are met through targeted provision of appropriate items and provide a private space for counselling and breastfeeding; ensuring that families are supported as they wait.

Capacity building and supervision:

  • Ensure all staff are well trained and provide on-going support and supervision to IYCF counsellors and volunteers and coordinate IYCF activities.

Recording and reporting:

  • Ensure accurate records are kept of mothers and children receiving assessment and support, that stock and distributions are monitored and that any distributions of infant formula are reported.
