Cultural Mediator
Recruitment of Cultural Mediator
Centre for Peace, Non-violence and Human Rights Osijek and Save the Children International is currently responding to the high influx of refugees and migrants through Croatia and support the government and other organisations in responding to humanitarian needs in Slavonski Brod registering transit camp.
We are looking for a Cultural Mediator to be based in Slavonski Brod, with the following experience:
- Applicants must be Croatian nationals, or holders of a work visa and resident’s permit.
- Ability to relocate within the country if required.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Understanding of Child Protection frameworks, and how they might be applied in the cross-cultural camp context.
- Strong linguistic and cultural understanding of Syrian/Afghan/Iraqi context.
- Capacity to support staff in working effectively cross culturally.
- Ability to work collaboratively in camp context.
- A commitment to the aims and objectives of Save the Children.
- Able to carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children’s commitment to safeguarding children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
As a Cultural Mediator, your responsibilities will include:
- Support key stakeholders in the camp (Police, government services, CRC, NGOs and INGOs, as well as Save IYCF and other Save initiatives) to work in a culturally appropriate manner with refugee and migrant children and families in the camp, including cases of unaccompanied and separated children.
- Identification and referral of Unaccompanied Children, as well as providing cultural information and support to government, NGO and INGO staff working directly with the children.
- Identification and referral of at risk/vulnerable children and families, as well as providing cultural information and support to government, NGO and INGO staff working directly with the children and families.
- Support the CP team in technical CP trainings for partners, volunteer or new STC staff.
- Provide support to volunteers to handle complex and sensitive cases and situations, as well as re-enforcing training already received from the Child Protection and Psychosocial support Trainer.
- Continuous documentation of child protection issues in the camp and identification of gaps/risks and appropriate responses.
- Support CFS activities as necessary.
