Breastfeeding Counsellor
We are currently responding to the high influx of refugees and migrants through Croatia where we are active in Slavonski Brod registering transit camp.
Centre for peace Osijek in cooperation with Save the Children are looking for a skilled Breastfeeding Counsellor to be based in Slavonski Brod, who meet the following criteria:
• Applicants must be Croatian nationals, or holders of a work visa and resident’s permit.
• Ability to relocate within the country if required.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Voluntary or paid work experience as a breastfeeding / mother support counsellor
• Undergone structured training programme /course on provision of breastfeeding support
• Knowledge of breastfeeding care and education principles, practices, procedures and techniques
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Flexible and positive approach to working in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources, Able to work with limited supervision, improvise and take initiative in face of unexpected challenges
• Applicants must be Croatian nationals, or holders of a work visa and resident’s permit.
• Ability to relocate within the country if required.

• Able to carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children’s commitment to safeguarding children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
As a Breastfeeding Counsellor, your responsibilities will include:
Identification, assessment and referral:
• Identify and assess mothers/caregivers and their infants to identify specific feeding support needs and ensure caregivers are aware of available services and support.
Awareness-raising and counselling:
• Provide one on one infant and young child feeding counselling for mothers / caregivers of breastfed and non-breastfed infants
• Raise awareness on best feeding practices for infants and young children in the emergency amongst family members and travel groups and other actors in the camp including humanitarian organisations, volunteer groups and the authorities.
Set-up, maintenance and facilitation of activities in the mother-baby areas:
• Ensure a private, safe space for counselling, breastfeeding and feeding of young children
• Meet the basic needs of mothers and infants through targeted provision of appropriate items
Capacity building and supervision:
• Provide on-going supportive supervision to volunteers to ensure quality messaging and activities consistent with programme guidelines
Recording and reporting:
• Keep a register of mothers and children receiving skilled assessment and support
