On Wednesday, we held an education session at the Roma Cultural Center Darda about key national and European programs that addressed the housing issue of Roma in Croatia.

Key EU and national projects related to more adequate inclusion of Roma in Croatia, as well as solving their housing issues, include:

  • The Decade of Roma Inclusion (2005-2015),
  • Action plan (2005-2015),
  • National plan for Roma inclusion (2021-2027).

It is necessary to emphasize this topic because of its positive influence on the quality of life of people of Roma nationality in Croatia. Furthermore, this education enabled the Roma community to become familiar with the possibilities and rights available to them. Many Roma, faced with long-term social marginalization and a lack of adequate housing, were not sufficiently informed about projects that could help them improve their living conditions. Through education, they gained knowledge about specific state and European funds, social integration programs, and projects that enable access to better housing and social services. In addition, such programs have played a key role in reducing discrimination and strengthening the social inclusion of Roma, creating the foundations for long-term changes in the social status of this community. Education on these issues has also enabled the Roma population to become more actively involved in processes that directly affect their lives, thus creating space for a more equal and just social framework.

This project was funded by the Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of the National Plan for Roma Inclusion, for the period from 2021 to 2027 with the funds of the Office for Human Rights and Rights of National Minorities of the Government of the Republic of Croatia.
