Stories that didn't make the headlines – but changed history

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition and a roundtable discussion as part of the multimedia authorial project “Behind the Front Lines: Invisible Heroines”, implemented by Centar za mir, nenasilje i ljudska prava – Osijek.

📅 May 26, 2026
🕕 Roundtable discussion at 6:00 PM
🕖 Exhibition opening at 7:00 PM
📍 Temporary Exhibition Space, Kapucinska 36, Osijek

The exhibition offers an intimate and powerful insight into women’s wartime experiences — experiences that have largely remained absent from dominant narratives of collective memory. Through photographs of personal objects and authentic testimonies of the participants, the project creates space for empathy, deeper understanding, and a more gender-sensitive culture of remembrance.

The exhibition is authored and curated by Jelena Kovačević, and the program includes a roundtable discussion moderated by Julijana Tešija. The speakers will reflect on the analysis of interviews conducted with the women whose objects are presented, on the role of women and trauma in the Croatian War of Independence, and on aspects of culture and art during wartime.

The project is part of a travelling exhibition that will also be presented in Vukovar and Požega, and is supported by the British Council.

Join us and be part of an important dialogue about experiences that deserve visibility.
