Masked men threatened attendees at the Days of Serbian Culture in Split

The Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights – Osijek strongly condemns the incident that occurred in Split during the Days of Serbian Culture event held at the Blatine District premises.
The intrusion of a group of masked individuals, the disruption of a cultural event, and the shouting of slogans that incite hatred and division represent a serious blow to the fundamental values of our society – respect, freedom, and the safety of every person.

Such acts are not an expression of concern for remembrance or patriotism, but rather a sign that intolerance and violence continue to poison our shared space. There is, and must be, no justification for denying anyone the right to freely express their culture, identity, and belonging.

We remind everyone that peace is not built through exclusion, intimidation, and division, but through dialogue, mutual respect, and living together in diversity. Only a society that nurtures nonviolence and empathy can be truly free and just.

Therefore, we call on the competent authorities to promptly identify and sanction the perpetrators of this incident and to demonstrate clearly and decisively that there is no place in our society for hate speech, threats, or violence.

The Centre for Peace continues to advocate for a society in which all citizens – regardless of nationality, religion, or other affiliation – are equally free, safe, and respected.
