Opis projekta

In 2009, the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights - Osijek founded an award and recognition for the promotion of peacebuilding, nonviolence and human rights in honor of one of its founders, the peace activist and humanist Krunoslav Sukić, whose education, knowledge and activities were motivated by recognition and respecting the dignity, integrity and rights of every human being, and even more broadly - of every living being and all created things. He was a conscientious objector. He represents publicly little known and recognized men and women who, despite the war and in the war and in such difficult, almost confusing transition times, did and are doing everything possible for us as a society and political community to progress towards a more fair and just, democratic society using non-violent methods - where individuals and the community will have space to develop their creative potential, but not at the expense of another and without fear of another - but rather to foster, maintain and improve peace by fostering solidarity and cooperation.

The "Krunoslav Sukić" Award and Recognition for the promotion of peacebuilding, nonviolence and human rights is awarded for a special contribution to the protection and promotion of human rights and human freedoms and the consistent promotion of a culture of peace and nonviolence.

By awarding awards and recognition, we want to contribute to the visibility of solidary, consistent, especially creative and courageous actions of individuals and individuals in preventing violence, reducing social injustices and building a democratic society based on a culture of nonviolence. We believe that celebrating and giving thanks for working for the common good encourages individuals to use their civic political power in favor of positive social change.

Over the past years, this, the first peace award in Croatia, has become a recognizable place of gathering, celebration and encouragement. Its reputation lies in the wealth of excellence and dedication of its laureates who come from eleven counties, including the easternmost, Vukovar-Srijem and southern, Dubrovnik-Neretva counties, as well as from the region and Europe. The Award has a national, regional and even international reach. We present the Award as "common ground" - a common dedication to a peaceful society, even though the laureates differ in many ways and come from different social strata, groups and generations. It is the vision that we, the people who coordinate the work of maintaining the Award, want to achieve.
