Opis projekta

The goal of this project is to increase the social and political influence of civil society organizations in Croatia through the development of innovative ways to effectively protect and promote human rights. In the past few years, Croatia has been facing a continuous decline in human rights and an increasingly difficult socioeconomic situation. At the same time, the institutions are inert and do not have sufficient capacity to design public policies, i.e. solutions for the problems of citizens based on human rights and the increasingly complex political, social and economic challenges of today.

Project results:

(June 9, 2022) – The results of research on the impact, visibility and needs of civil society organizations for the protection of human rights were presented. The research was conducted for the purpose of designing new ways of working and models for institutional and legal advocacy, legal support for victims of human rights violations, and public communication and mobilization of citizens. The publication "New Beginning" brings the results of research on what Croatian citizens think and how much trust they have in associations. It also analyzes how much and what kind of influence human rights organizations have in Croatia, what kind of environment they operate in, and what challenges civil society organizations face. The authors of the research and publication are independent experts Nives Miošić and Sara Lalić from the Centre for Peace Studies.

The research and publication were created as part of the project NEW BEGINNING - Sectoral innovations for a proactive, progressive and influential civil society for the protection and promotion of human rights, which is carried out by the House of Human Rights Zagreb, the Centre for Peace Studies, the Croatian Youth Initiative for Human Rights, the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights Osijek and the Human Rights House Foundation from Norway, and with the financial support of the Fund Program for Active Citizenship in Croatia.
